
National day of mourning for Chirac
Prime Minister Saad Hariri issued a memo declaring Monday a national day of mourning for Lebanon’s “dear friend” the late French President Jacques Chirac, who is also a dear close friend of late Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri.
Chirac was previously the Prime Minister of France from 1974 to 1976 then from 1986 to 1988, as well as the Mayor of Paris from 1977 to 1995.
He was elected president of France from May 1995 till May 2007.
Chirac survived an assassination attempt on the 14th of July 2002, during Bastille Day celebrations.
Flags are to be lowered to half-mast at all public institutions in Lebanon while TV stations are urged to air a remembrance ceremony scheduled for Monday in Paris.
The former French president passed away last Thursday 26th of September 2019, at the age of 86.
